For most of my life I didn’t pray, in the conventional sense, because I didn’t like prayers and never felt like I should ask for anything, so finally I wrote my own prayer to say every day. It’s a generic all-in-one. It doesn’t have any names in it, so you can use it for Allah, God, or Zeus. It can be used by Christians, Jews, Muslims, Hindus, and atheists in hospitals. It’s handy and even free. Please pass it on.

A SIMPLE PRAYER

Thank you for giving me life.

Thank you for all of my suffering, which made me stronger,

And for all of my pleasure, which helped keep me going.

Thank you for teaching me, which gave me wisdom.

Thank you for answering my prayer, which gave me hope.

And thank you for loving me, by far the greatest gift of all.
